Alex Simmons

Alex Simmons is an Emmy-nominated director/producer and a recipient of Overseas Press Club and Prism awards. He has worked with Discovery, National Geographic, Al Jazeera America, Current TV and Grantland for ESPN.Simmons recently completed directing "Borderland," Al Jazeera America's innovative documentary series on undocumented immigration. Previously he directed and series-produced "Inside: Secret America," starring Mariana van Zeller on National Geographic. He has also directed documentaries on topics ranging from Christian MMA fighters, anti-gay legislation in Uganda, Big Tobacco's play for Asia, and Rio de Janeiro's race to clear its slums of crime, and the criminals themselves, before hosting the World Cup and Olympics.Simmons has also produced and directed numerous music documentaries and concert films, working with artists such as Sigur Rós, Common, Death Cab For Cutie, Mos Def and The Decemberists.
