In the early 1990s Kelly was a singer and guitarist for the band The Jody Grind; said group recorded two albums and broke up after two members were killed in a car accident. After acting in lead roles in stage productions of "Appalachian Christmas" and "The Dead Sea Scrolls and Other Chilling Tales of the Sea" at Theatrical Outfit in Atlanta, Hogan went on to join the garage rock revivalist group the Rock*A*Teens. She eventually left the Rock*A*Teens to pursue a solo career and released her debut solo album "The Whistle Only Dogs Can Hear" in 1996. Kelly followed this album with the albums "Beneath the Country Underdog" in 2000 and "Because It Feel Good" in 2001. Among the musicians Hogan has collaborated with are Neko Case (she's a back-up singer in Case's band), Drive-By Truckers, Jakob Dylan, The Waco Brothers, Silkworm, Nora O'Connor, Mavis Staples, The Minus 5, and The Wee Hairy Beasties. Moreover, Kelly worked as a bartender at the Chicago, Illinois bar The Hideout from 1998 to 2008. She released her fourth album "I Like To Keep Myself in Pain" in 2012.
