Jack Vincennes is a working-class guy who became a police officer. He developed a relationship with Sid Hudgens (publisher of Hush-Hush Magazine , a L.A. city scandal sheet) by giving Hudgens information on narcotics busts, for which Hudgens pays him under the table. Hudgens in turn gets Vincennes a position as technical advisor to the TV show Badge of Honor (channeling Dragnet ). This is where the movie comes in. Vincennes gradually awakens to Sid's part in a plot reaching into the L.A.P.D. to take over L.A.'s criminal activity following the incarceration of Mickey Cohen, and joins with Ed Exley (Guy Pearce) to fight it.
