The film follows the story of Captain John Yusarian (Alan Arkin), a pilot based in the Mediterranean, where he performs several different missions. John is engaged in dangerous missions through heavy bombing during World War II. John desperately tries to run away and maintains his life by completely moving away from his painful and absurd attitude in his mission.
