An old man listens to Bill's story about being a roving writer and likes to follow strangers in London and watch them. One day, a heavy and self-confident man is confronted by Bill. A thief takes Bill under his wing and shows him how to break and enter. They are going to a woman's apartment. He follows her and exchanges her in a bar owned by her ex-boyfriend, a wicked man who has killed someone in his living room with a hammer. Bill soon volunteered to do this work in the midst of dramatic events.
