Terry Malloy lives his life as an award-winning fighter while running on the docks for Johnny Friendly, the corrupt director of the Dockers Union. Terry tries to understand what happened as he witnesses the murder of two of Johnny's thugs, later meets the dead man's sister and feels responsible for his death while experiencing an unexpected experience later.
