The series tells of a woman named Nella Ortman whose life changed radically when she decided to marry a rich merchant and move to Amsterdam in the 17th century. Nella seems to have difficulty adapting and is struggling to win her husband's affection while she is with him. Nella is trying to discover the dark secrets she faces day after day when she employs a mysterious miniaturist to supply the doll house that she received from her merchant husband, where things turn into a mysterious turn.
