Angie LeMar

Born in 1965 to Jamaican parents Angie grew up in the London borough of Lewisham. After joining the Second Wave Women's drama group and attending stage school she began acting roles but claims that her dyslexia made it difficult to sight-read scripts. She thus decided to become Britain's first black stand-up comedienne,launching in 1994 her show 'Funny Black Women on the Edge' which played successfully at the Edinburgh Fringe and at the Theatre Royal,Stratford East. Her self-penned show 'The Brothers' has been a success in three media,radio,television and stage and,as of 2012,is due to appear in sitcom 'The Ryan Sisters'. In addition to her work as a performer she formed the Straight To Audience production company to encourage youngsters to take up stand up comedy. Show less «
