Alexis Karenin, Anna's husband, appears to be a cold fish. He's got wealth and excellent social and professional connections, a wife whom everybody adores, and a high-spirited son. But none of these things seems to touch him personally. Karenin lives according to a strict schedule of work, dinner parties, and reading, with evenings spent in philosophical (but not emotional) discussions with his wife. His actions, however, reveal a depth of love for Anna. He takes her back after she gives birth to another man's daughter exposing himself to ridicule. After her death he raises the daughter as his own, smiling at her playing in the field with her brother. Show less «
