Izumo Kamizuki (, Kamizuki Izumo) and his comrade, Kotetsu Hagane, make their debut trying to discourage Genin from participating in the Chunin Exams. Their effort proves ineffective, and they later serve as proctors for the first exam. In the anime, after the Fifth Hokage takes office, Izumo and Kotetsu act as her personal assistants, and also become the patrolmen of the entrance/exit gate of Konoha. The two appear again in Part II as members of the Niju Shotai teamed with Asuma Sarutobi and Shikamaru Nara. During a battle with Akatsuki member Kakuzu, Izumo uses Water Release: Syrup Capture Field (, Suiton: Mizuame Nabara) to blanket the ground in a sticky syrup that immobilizes Kakuzu, and Kotetsu attempts to attack the immobilized Akatsuki member.
