The series is about a drama of a different kind, with McKinsey Allen, the 45-year-old vice president of the United States, about to enter an area no woman has ever entered. While at a formal ceremony with husband and chief of staff, Rudd Calloway, Chief of Staff Jim Gardner told her and the Attorney General that President Bridges was about to undergo an emergency brain surgery because of a tumor. McKinsey was shocked when Gardner told her that if the president did not recover, the party did not want it to fail.
